In a celebration of sustainable living, a recent slab party for the new 10 NatHERS Star display home at Catalina Green Estate in Clarkson marked a significant milestone for our community. This event was not just about laying the foundation for a new home, but also about laying the groundwork for a greener, more sustainable future.
A Collaborative Effort
The project is a collaboration between some of the most respected names in sustainable architecture and construction. Solargain, experts in renewable energy solutions have partnered with Solar Dwellings, who won a tender to design the home and are renowned for their innovative and eco-friendly designs and Nulook Homes, sustainable new home builders. Together, we are creating a home that is not only beautiful and functional but also environmentally and socially responsible.
Leading the Way in Sustainable Design
Griff Morris of Solar Dwellings, a well-known figure in the Perth sustainable home-building community, is leading the project. His passion for sustainable home design is evident in every aspect of the build. The home, designed with both homeowners and our environment in mind, achieves a top-level 10 NatHERS Star rating. Solar Dwellings didn't stop there, it went the extra steps to incorporate Gold Level Livable Housing Australia design guidelines. Selected as the winning design by Catalina Regional Council, the rating is a testament to the home’s energy efficiency and sustainability.
Renewable Energy Solutions
Solargain will supply and install a complete home energy solution, including solar power, hot water and an EV charger. The renewable energy solution selected is from iStore, Australia’s leading home electrification company. iStore started out with award-winning heat pump technology and have expanded into solar energy including hybrid inverters and batteries to power electrification of the whole home. The integration of a renewable energy solution ensures that the home not only meets but exceeds sustainability standards, providing a model for future developments.
Strategic Location and Community Impact
The Catalina Green Sustainability Demonstration Home is strategically located at Lot 3022 Karijini Loop, Clarkson, with easy access and exposure to Connolly Drive. The prime location ensures high visibility and accessibility, making it an ideal spot within the Builders’ Display Village, scheduled to open in 2025 and operate for a minimum of two years. This display home will serve as a beacon of sustainable living, inspiring new homeowners and the broader community.
Community and Industry Support
The slab party brought together key stakeholders and supporters of the project. Leading Energy ESD who ensure the project meets the 10 Star rating were present alongside representatives from Lysaught, Colorbond, Bunnings and Satterley, the land developers. Their involvement underscores the importance of industry collaboration in achieving sustainability goals. Members of the Catalina Regional Council attended the event highlighting the community’s commitment to sustainable development and the shared goal of reducing our carbon footprint.
A Vision for the Future
This display home will double as a sales office for the development, serving as an inspiration for new homeowners on their journey to sustainability. The project is a shining example of what can be achieved when we come together with a common purpose. It marks an exciting step forward as we work together towards our Net Zero goals, demonstrating that sustainable living is not just a dream, but a reality to which we can all aspire.
