WA’s newest 10-Star home at Catalina Green Estate beats the summer heat
The Catalina Sustainable Home will open doors to simpler, smarter choices that help families significantly reduce energy bills and optimise comfort, even on those hot summer days and nights. It stands as a shining example of industry and government collaboration in driving innovation that makes sustainable living and a smaller environmental footprint more achievable for more households.
A collaboration between the Catalina Regional Council (CRC) and land developers Satterley, The Catalina Sustainable Home is designed by Solar Dwellings and under construction by Nulook Homes at Catalina Green Estate, in Perth’s northern suburbs. The home has achieved 10 stars, the maximum NatHERS rating available, and will be net zero for carbon emissions. Completion expected in April 2025
CRC Chair Tony Kristicevic said, “The Council is proudly committed to raising the bar in home building innovation and sustainability. And while we recognise that not everyone will be able to afford to construct a home with all the environmental features of the Catalina Sustainable Home, we hope people who visit will be inspired to incorporate elements of the intelligent design and material selections into their homes.”
In addition to achieving outstanding environmental credentials, the home has been designed to meet Livable Homes Australia guidelines and adapt to the changing needs of the home’s occupants, providing optimal comfort, safety and accessibility inside and out.
Director of Solar Dwellings, and designer of The Catalina Sustainable Home, Griff Morris said “Seeing the principles of passive solar and livable design at work in the Catalina Sustainable Home will encourage people to think differently about their own homes and make informed choices that will serve them and their family well into the future. Smarter sustainable design saves money, and these individual choices have a broad, positive impact on the environment,” said Griff.
